EGGERT, Arnold Robert Arnold Robert Eggert, beloved husband of Monica Eggert of Middletown died Thursday (March 2, 2000) at the Hospice Unit of Middlesex Hospital. He went to his Redeemer with his devoted wife at his side. Family and dear ones gave him great loving support during his struggle with cancer. Arnold was a former resident of New Britain, he graduated from New Britain High School in 1936 and starred on the school state championship team.

He went on to Scarborough Prep School in New York and then to Brown University, graduating in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Medics at Mason General Hospital and directed groups in the first GroupPhychotherapy Program initiated by the Army. He later was a secretary of the Young Mens Christian Association as well as a district manager for Equitable Life. He went on to become a convalescent home administrator a position that he loved and he was loved by both patients and staff.

His final service was with Lutheran Home in Middletown for 15 years. He was described as a loving and caring administrator. Arnold Eggert was a man the courage of his convictions, with an approach to life that was always kind, straightforward and honest. He was a member of the Bill W. Club for 35 years.

A most important part of his life was his deep abiding faith in the Lord. The memory of him will be cherished by many. Survivors include a daughter, Louise Chase of Newington; sisters, Melinda "Jerry" Hausman of Madison and Natilie Peltzer of Middletown; two grandsons; two granddaughters; a great granddaughter; many dear nieces and nephews and their spouses; well as many very dear friends. A memorial service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 12 Court Cromwell, Saturday, March 11, at 11 a.m. after the service the celebration of Arnold Eggert'slife will continue in the church hall.

FARBOTKA, Adolf Adolf Farbotka, 87, of Hartford, beloved husband of Anna Farbotka, died Sunday, (March 5, 2000) at Hartford Hospital, Born in Poland, he lived in Hartford since 1949. He served in the Polish Army during World War and was employed as machinist at the Olivetti Underwood Corporation for many years. He was a communicant of SS Cyril Methodius Church, Hartford, and a member of the Polish National Alliance. Besides his wife, he leaves a cousin, Krystyna Chybinski of Mexico, He was predeceased by a brother, Bronislaw Farbotka. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 9:15 a.m.

DEATH NOTICES DEATH NOTICES DEATH NOTICES GIUFFRIDA, Irene Topazio Irene Topazio Giuffrida, 80, a lifelong resident of Middletown, died unexpectedly on Saturday (March 4, 2000). Born January 4, 1920, Irene was raised and educated in Middletown. She worked for many years as a librarian, first managing the Long River Village branch of the Russell Library, and then as the Engineering librarian for Aetna Life Casualty until her retirement in 1981. She also managed the library for the First United Methodist Church for many years in addition to teaching Sunday school there.

Irene was a long-time member of the Lady Washington Chapter 45 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Mattabassett Garden Club, for which she served as chaplain. Irene could always be counted upon by family and friends. She was the consummate mother and grandmother, always loving and watchful. She was also a great correspondent, maintaining contact with family and friends.

Irene was predeceased by her father, Concetto Topazio, and by her mother, Corradina (Giuliana) Topazio. One of ten children, Irene was also predeceased by her four brothers, Rosalino Edward, George, and Virgil and by four sisters, Sebastiana Todeschini, Anna DeBenedetto, Isabella Napolitano, and Grace Shonty. She is survived by her sister, Valentina Mazzotta of Middletown. She is also survived by her son, Johnny and his wife Elizabeth of East Hampton; her son, Michael and his wife Donna of Wethersfield; her son, Joe and his wife Lisa of California; and her daughter, Rosa of West Hartford. Irene leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends, especially at St.

Luke's in Middletown. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 9, 11 a.m., atthe Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. The service will be followed by a gathering of Irene's family and friends in the Parlor at the First United Methodist Church, 24 Old Church Street, Middletown. Leon S. Glazer, of Bloomfield, died Monday, (March 6, 2000). in Hartford, he was the son of the late Israel and Esther (Shepps) Glazer. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr.

Glazer was associated with Star Hardware and the former Colonial Hardware. He was one of the original founders of Beth Hillel Synagogue of Bloomfield, Secretary of the Young Ludmir Benevolent Association, and a member of the Senior Social Club. He leaves his beloved wife, Evelyn (Marholin) Glazer; a son, Edmund E. Glazer and his wife, Gloria; a sister, Shirley Smoler; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Bunny Berman and her husband, Robert, of West Hartford. Born in Hartford, the son of the late Benjamin and Sara (Beizer) Goldberg, he was a graduate School and attended KAPLAN, Lenore Pauline "Leni" Lenore Pauline "Leni" Kaplan, 71, of Stakum Circle, Oxford, formerly of Hill Street, Hamden, passed away Saturday, (March 4, 2000) at the Griffin Hospital, Derby. She was the beloved wife of Marvin Jerome "Jerry" Kaplan. Mrs.

Kaplan was born April 14, 1928, in Spring Valley, NY. She was the daughter of the late Nathan and Alice Rebecca (Weiner) Glasner. She resided in Oxford since 1995. She was a retired breeder of champion A.K.C. pedigree Boxer dogs.

She was a member of the Boxer Club of New Haven and the American Boxer Club. She was a member and sat on the Board of Directorsof the Elm City Kennel Club. She was an A.K.C. certified Boxer judge, and was a member of the A.K.C Senior Judges Club. She sat on the Board of Directors for the swim team at the Northern Branch Y.M.C.A., Hamden.

Besides her devoted husband of 50 years, she leaves her loving family including two daughters, Andrea Ward, and Eileen Chubat, both of Oxford; her brother, Seymour Glasner in Arizona; two sisters, Ann Block in California, and Bernice Rubenstein in Pennsylvania. HALSTEAD, Marjorie Marjorie (Meehan-Rodenburg) Halstead of North Haven, widow of John L. Halstead, died Monday, (March 6, was 2000), born at the and grew Connecticut up in Portland. Hospice. Charles T. Hicks, 86, of Hartford, departed this life on Wednesday, (March 1, 2000) at St. Francis Hospital of Hartford, after a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 22, 1913 in Norfolk, to the late Ransom and Della Dardon Hicks.

He resided in Hartford for the past 48 years. He retired from Balf Construction Company after 20 years. Keeney, 68, of Round Hill Salem, died Sunday, (March 5, 2000) at Bayview Health Care Center in Waterford. Born May 14, 1931 in Hartford, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Bertha (Piekarz) Syphers. Mrs. Keeney was a former receptionist at the Colchester Convalescent Home. She was married on November 23, 1962 in Lebanon to Wesley Keeney.

Along with her husband, she is survived by a son, David and daughter law, Judy Keeney of Hampton; a stepson, Everette Keeney of Hebron; a daughter, Sandra and son-in-law, Paul Purdy of Newport, RI; three stepdaughters, Susan Voisine of West StafJoyce Evans of Colchester, and Janet Dwyer of Manchester; a sister, Bertha Mayer of Florida; eight step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews. CARLSON, Florine (Anderson) DEATH NOTICES Florine (Anderson) Carlson, 92, of Southington, died Monday (March 6, 2000), at Cheshire Convalescent Center. She was the widow of Wallace S. Carlson, and predeceased by a son, Craig W.

Carlson, and a brother, Everett Anderson. A New Britain native, she was a former Newington resident. She attended the New Britain Normal School and taught second grade in Newington, and then for 27 years in the New Britain School System, retiring in 1972. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Newington, and was a member of the Connecticut Retired Teachers Association; AARP; and Calender House in Southington. Surviving is a daughter, Susan Elshire and her husband, Frank of Southington; a foster daughter, Sonja Suessenbach of Austin, TX; a granddaughter, Kate Elshire of Southington; and four nieces.

Sr. Bernard L. Chappell, 77, formerly of Fox Trail, Coventry, and' Manchester, husband of the late Marjorie L. (Sweatland) Chappell, died Monday, (March 6, 2000), at a local convalescent home. was born in New London, July 25, 1922, son of late Griswold and Bernice (Allen) Chappell, and was raised in Manchester, living most of his life in Coventry.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in World War and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Prior to retiring, he was a courier for Automatic Data Processing and previously a guard at the State of CT Prison in Wethersfield and Somers. He was a member of North United Methodist Church, an originator and 50 year member of NUMC Softball Team, life member of DAV and member of NRA and CT State Employee Association. Mr.

Chappell is survived by two sons a and a daughterin-law, Bernard L. Chappell, Jr. of Rocky Hill, formerly of Coventry, David A. and Lola Chappell of Manchester; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Patricia and Allen Smith of Ellington, Judy and James Parlee of Vernon, Linda Brancieri of Glastonbury, Pamela and Angelo Stanizzi of Ellington; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Robert King of Vernon, Doris and Kenneth Hollister of Gettysburg, PA; 13 grandchildren; numerous greatgrandchildren; and several nieces nephews. He was a Naval Veteran of World War II, and had been employed as district manager by SNET for 35 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Church of The Holy Trinity, Middletown.

She was born in East Longmeadow, MA, on August 6, 1910, daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Miner) Johnson, and was a former resident of Marlborough and Colchester.

Before her retirement, she was employed at the former Connecticut General Insurance, Bloomfield.
