Scientists at the University of Rochester Medical Center say they are studying the effectiveness of penicillamine as a treatment for duch*enne's Muscular Dystrophy, the form that affects children.
The scientists say penicillamine (not an antibiotic) may have the ability to interfere with the process that destroys patients' muscle cells. Dr. Robert Griggs says the course of the disease is being studied in 100 patients over a period of time in order to determine the effectiveness of the experimental treatment.
